Cutting the TCO of email
JOHANNESBURG May 17, 2006 - Local electronic communications specialist, Conversant Systems, has announced the arrival in SA of the Scalix messaging and collaboration server bundled with the newly released Xandros Server Edition Linux platform.
Wayne Smith, MD of Conversant, says the bundle offers local customers a viable and more affordable alternative to Windows Server & Microsoft Exchange without sacrificing functionality In today's connected world e-mail and calendaring applications are among the most critical to the business but often the most unreliable, complex and expensive to maintain.
This is particularly true of the Windows Server/Microsoft Exchange bundle a situation that has long had IT managers searching for alternatives. Now, thanks to an international integration agreement between Scalix and Xandros, local SMB customers have the freedom to choose a more robust email and calendaring solution without having to change the client software, he adds.
The integration of Scalix with Xandros Server provides SMBs with an all-in-one groupware solution through which the management of users can be centrally administered via a Scalix management plug-in to the remote Xandros Management Console. The combined solution provides email and calendaring support for a wide range of rich email clients including Outlook, Evolution and a wide range of wireless devices, notes Smith.
